4 parenting styles i learnt from myself and my parent friends.

 Being a parent is a job we all have to do but sometimes we make mistakes unknowingly. Being raised by mom who is a nurse, an authoritarian, she does not bend the rule for anyone or anything, you must live and play by her rules. She raised me well anyways.

I bet you don't know these four parenting styles and the one you are practicing and its effects on the development and character of your kids. Your parenting style will go a long way in shaping the kind of adults your kids will become tomorrow.

  1. 1. Authoritative parents; these parents are more democratic, this parenting style is known to have the best outcome. these parents communicate well, listen very well and work together to solve the problem that may arise.

    Authoritative parents set clear boundaries and provide consistent discipline while also being responsive warm and nurturing. studies have shown that this parenting style raises children who are happy, capable and successful.

    2. Un-involved parents; these kind of parents are genuinely detached from their children, they don't care about setting rules or expectations and are not warm or responsive. This parenting style raises kids with low self esteem and lack of self control. They may be too busy to be there for their kids, no role model for their kids to look up to.

    3. Permissive parents; these kind of parents are often their children's best friend. they show lots of love, warm and nurture but don't have clear boundaries and rules. Discipline for these kind of parents is either non existent or inconsistent. In this part of the world we say the parents are spoiling the child.

    Kids raised by these kind of parents are often overly indulged and become less self discipline.

    4. Authoritarian parents; hmmm, these parents lay so much emphasis on obedience. they have strict rules ad expect absolute adherence to these rules. They don't give their kids too many choices neither do they express a lot of warmth and nurturing. You see these type of parents in teachers and nurses. These type of parents believe in discipline and obedience, they have clear boundaries and rules which they apply at every time.

    These kind of parents raise kids who learn to be obedient in an attempt to gain an approval and love from their parents but they are more likely to suffer from low self esteem, depression and or anxiety.

    •   You don't know the kind of parenting style you are practicing, here are some tips to help strike a balance;

      • Develop parent-child connection; without parent child connection, children often feel unloved. Family is a place where we belong, feel loved valued and known; it means more than rules and punishments. There must be love, warmth, responsiveness not tied to behavior or achievement.

        Don't leave your kids at the mercy of whoever who is available to raise them, raise your kids yourself and be there for them

        On the other hand, children also need an authority figure firm boundaries, rules and expectations. The father figure plays this role in the family.

        LIMITS HELD FIRMLY BUT GENTLY PROVIDES CHILDREN WITH OPPORTUNITIES FOR ADOPTION.

        Finally, hold your child accountable with consistent gentle correction when conduct gets off balance, provide unconditional love, warmth, affection, learn your child's love language and speak it often and fluently.

        FINALLY, DON'T SPARE THE ROD AND SPOIL THE CHILD.

        BRING UP YOUR CHILDREN IN THE WAY THEY SHOULD GROW, SO THAT WHEN THEY GROW THEY WON'T DEPART FROM IT.

        TILL I BEEP YOU AGAIN........

        STAY HAPPY ALWAYS..................
